Effective crisis communications requires absolute confidentiality in regard to clients and their situations; the goal is not only to respond to media inquiries once they occur, but--in many cases--to manage the situation in such a way that media attention is avoided or minimized.
The most successful outcome often can be reflected in the fact that no negative publicity occurred. Therefore, none of our current clients situations are listed here, and previous clients are described but not identified in the following scenarios (References are available upon request.)
Scenarios and Services:
- A high-ranking employee of a prominent business filed sexual harassment charges against her employer, who also was well-known in the community. We worked with the employee to train her for media interaction and worked with her lawyer to draft anticipatory media news releases.
- A water-testing laboratory was under investigation by state agencies as a result of a disgruntled former employee’s claims that illegal practices occurred. We partnered with the laboratory and its lawyers to form a media strategy, draft anticipatory response press releases that were forthright and accurate and propose a joint media statement to the state regulatory agencies when the matter was resolved.
- A medical facility was threatened by legal action regarding a personal/professional relationship that involved its director and a former employee. We worked with the facility's directors and lawyers to prepare a strategy and train facility spokespeople with extensive q-and-a and videotaping sessions.
- A residential group home for adolescents became the focus of media scrutiny when a young man died at the facility. We assisted the facility's director and lawyers as the dealt with day-to-day media inquiries and trained facility staff regarding effective media interaction. In one case, we arranged for and conducted a media tour through the facility.
